Josh Fortune
Biography
Josh Fortune graduated from Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication with a degree in Content Creation and Broadcasting for New Media. In a bold and unconventional move, he joined the British Army and was soon deployed to Iraq. While serving as a soldier, he filmed a short documentary capturing the realities of military life in the region. The BBC aired the piece several times over a weekend in September 2007 on News 24. Following the documentary’s success, Fortune deployed to Afghanistan—this time as a civilian—working with NATO TV. His role involved filming a range of stories in collaboration with the deployed team and distributing the footage to international media outlets. He returned to the UK in 2011 and established himself as a freelance animator, graphic designer, and filmmaker. Blending his military experience with creative media production, Fortune became a distinctive voice across disciplines. He also authored Three Years at War, a book that offers a personal account of his time in Afghanistan, reflecting both the civilian and military dimensions of conflict.
